Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E)

PolicyHse

MBI recognizes its obligation as an employer and contractor to conduct business activities in a manner that will safeguard the health and safety of all personnel and protect the natural environment. MBI’s HSE program is designed to comply with established Safety Standards, provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and other applicable federal, state and local safety codes.

MBI places the highest priority on the well-being and safety of people and the preservation of the environment. There is no aspect of the Company’s operation or administration having greater importance that loss prevention.

Organization and Responsibility

Responsibility for the promotion of safety and environmental protection begins with MBI’s CEO and goes through management to each employee. All employees have a legal and moral obligation to take all reasonable care for their health and safety and that of others.

Our program is organized such that MBI employs a dedicated HSE Manager who is responsible for all matters relating to safety and the environment. Line supervisors are directly responsible for actions in the shop.

Program Components

Behavioral Based Safety – Behavior-based safety programs (BBSP’s) are designed to improve safety performance by increasing the frequency of Safe behaviors. The BBSP’s incorporate many of the elements of traditional safety programs that have been widely utilized in industry. However, the emphasis is on identifying unsafe behaviors and, more importantly, the causes associated with the unsafe behaviors. Once the causes are identified, an attempt must be made to identify the rewards, or reinforcers, associated with the root cause. This approach is utilized for safety observations and accident investigations. MBI is already moving towards this type of safety plan with the implementation of a Safety Incentive Program and other components of BBSP’s.

Safety Policies and Procedures Manual – The manual details the policies and procedures necessary to safeguard personnel and the environment.

Initial Training Program – The program includes all the basic training necessary for a new employee to protect their personnel health and safety, as well as, the environment. All new employees are required to attend the Initial Training Program.

Drug and Alcohol Policy - MBI believes substance abuse to be a serious threat to the abusing employee, the Company’s staff, the public, as well as, the Company’s customers and guests. Therefore, the Company employs a workplace drug and alcohol testing policy to ensure that the Company will have a drug and alcohol-free environment.

Emergency Preparedness Plan – One of the keys to personal safety in an emergency is preparedness. MBI utilizes a program to ensure that all of its employees are prepared in the event of an emergency to protect themselves, fellow employees and the environment.

Safety Meetings – MBI conducts regular safety meetings, toolbox meetings and site safety meetings in an effort to keep all personnel abreast of HSE policies, current events or upcoming changes.

Training – Apart from the Initial Training Program, additional training is given when policies or procedure changes are made, site specific training is needed or new hazards are identified. Additionally, specialized training is given as required in areas such as forklift operation, overhead cranes, fire extinguisher use etc.

Project Safety Plans – MBI tailors its HSE policies to fit site specific needs for customers.

Audits – Our activities are audited on a regular basis. We also rely on the external audits by prospective or existing clients and our insurances carrier. Any audit recommendations for improvements are considered and if necessary safety procedures are modified accordingly.

Environmental Management

Protecting the Environment is extremely important for the present, but absolutely crucial if we would like to leave our natural resources in pristine condition for future generations. MBI ensures that it is doing its part to protect the environment by properly disposing of all hazardous waste and wastewater through reputable licensed disposers of these by products.

Records in the form of audit reports and shipping manifests are maintained at MBI.
